Thumb and Hammer Photo Gallery

The purpose of the Thumb & Hammer Photo Gallery is to allow users to share photos of their home improvement projects with others.  Once you register for an account, an album is automatically created for you and you can upload pictures and create sub-albums.  You also have the option of creating private albums, viewable only by you and other users you specify.  The generous 10 MB limit is enough for sharing up to 200 pictures, if file sizes are kept within 50k.

Getting Started

Create you account by clicking "Register."  Your username is the name you will use to log in.  Your "full name" is the name that will be displayed on your album.

Once you register, and album is automatically created for you.  We  recommend uploading a picture to your parent album, and then creating sub-albums to keep your pictures organized.  Or you may decide not to create any sub-albums, and just keep all your pictures in your main album.  The choice is yours.

As you add items to your album, don't worry about titles or captions for the individual pictures.  It will be easier to edit them later.

Permissions

You can determine who can see your album by editing permissions.  There are three groups of users:  Everybody, Registered Users, and Site Admin.  By default, everybody will be able to view your album.  If you wish to make your album private, simply remove the appropriate group permissions.  If you wish to share a picture with only specific users, you may edit user permissions.

We also recommend the following group permissions:  "add comments" and "view comments."  However this is optional.  The Gallery incorporates technology to prevent spamming of the comments.

When viewing your album, you may at any time toggle between your administration view and the guest view.

Account and File Sizes

Your account has a generous limit of 10 MB.  High resolution photos can quickly eat up that space.  That is why we recommend optimizing your pictures for display on the internet (all photos are displayed at 72 dpi).  This can be done by using photo editing software, or by selecting the lowest setting on your digital camera.  Depending on resolution, you have enough storage space for anywhere from 20 digital photos taken with a 3 megapixel camera at its highest setting to 200 photos optimally sized at 50k.

Copyright and Privacy

If you upload a picture to the Thumb & Hammer Gallery, you state that the picture you upload is your proprietary or you have permission to upload it.  You also understand that once a picture is displayed on the Thumb & Hammer Gallery, it becomes public domain.

Any X-rated adult oriented material that is viewable by the public will be removed.

Hotlinking is theft of bandwidth.  The gallery is not intended to be photo storage.  There are other resources on the internet that offer this kind of service.
