Over the weekend, I started framing the walls in the new workroom and storage room. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done any kind of DIY thing, and it took me quite a while to settle into a rhythm. Unfortunately, I was just hitting a decent pace when my daughter was ready to go to bed on Saturday. The days of being able to hammer nails and cut lumber through the night are long gone…
I also wasted a significant amount of time at Home Depot, picking up additional building supplies on Sunday. By the time I got home and off-loaded the supplies, it was too late in the day for me to muster up any kind of ambition.
On Monday, the contractors were once again at work, hanging doors, installing plugs and lights, and installing the vanity (which was picked up in the morning). The tile looks amazing with the vanity. The vanity looks amazing. Everything is coming together. Well, almost everything.
Linen cabinet disappointment
The bathroom was designed around the specific dimensions of the matching linen cabinet that we had ordered. Unfortunately, those dimensions did not take into account the crown molding. We also did not account for the visibility of the seam between the upper and lower cabinet. Simply put, the cabinet just looked out of place. But, being a special order, it’s ours, whether we use it or not.
Enter the cabinet maker
What’s another cabinet when you’re doing a whole kitchen? The cabinet maker will make us a new linen tower, possibly using much of the one we have, once he is finished the kitchen cabinets.
Pictures pictures pictures
I haven’t posted any photos lately. Let’s face it, drywall is boring. But now, with the tile and some of the cabinetry, you can see how things are looking. Any comments or questions will be most welcome on the forum.
Laundry rooom floor
Bathroom floor. Same tile as the laundry room, but different light brings out different character.
The bathroom tile and vanity are well matched.
Another view showing the backsplash with the vanity. Classy, eh?
We are now half way through Day 27. The contractors are installing trim and I am about to head down to the basement to do some more framing of my own. There is no doubt now that the bedroom, bathroom and laundry room (except for the linen cabinet) will be finished by the end of the week. But there is still a lot of work ahead: the second floor, the kitchen and the hallway. And the clock is ticking with only 4 weeks to go before the in-laws invade. I am actually feeling pretty confident now that we will be finished in time. It’ll be close, though.
