No surprises with the estimate

Thursday, 5 March 09

I was in contact with the architect on Wednesday once he received the estimate from the contractor. I had a ball park guess in my own head going into this and I was pleasantly surprised when the contractor’s estimate came in with my number at the high end. The cost could potentially be lower. However, I am not naive and fully expect the final cost of the project will be much more once we tack on a few extras here and there. And of course, I am fully aware, up front, that I am responsible for the cost of some of the finishing materials and fixtures. But the bottom line is that the estimate is exactly where I expected it to be and that is good news.

We have a few design tweaks to finalize before the project gets underway, which could be as early as next week. And the time frame is only four to five weeks for completion of a renovation that will put an end to most of our nightmares.
