Are we ready for the chaos?

Wednesday, 11 March 09

The contractor is scheduled to begin work today, but I’m not quite sure we are ready yet.  We sure could use another week to get things in order, both for ourselves and for the contractor.

On Tuesday I took several more loads to the storage unit, getting a lot of stuff out of the basement to clear the area for the bathroom as well as giving the contractor an area to set up shop.  Although I did get a lot of stuff out of the basement, there is still a lot of stuff down there.  I’m not sure that what I got done will be good enough.

I also took a load of stuff for donation which is generally a good thing.  However, I couldn’t help feeling a little depressed.  A few of the items were toys that my daughter had outgrown, and while I’m happy to be rid of the clutter, I realize that her childhood is passing quickly.  I also donated a few of my suits.  My suits have a tendency to “shrink” and I was still holding onto three or four of them  going back about 25 years (and about 75 pounds).

Part of my day was spent at the “showroom for members only” place where I finally ordered our tub (the Maax Maestro Hydromax).  The only big ticket items left to select are the bathroom tiles and the faucets for the main bathroom.  The rest is all framing, drywall and trim.  Oh yeah, and labour.  We are paying for labour.  Labour was a lot cheaper when I was doing the DIY thing.

I will attempt to do daily updates on the blog while the project is underway and should be able to start posting some pictures of the work in progress.  Stay tuned.
