I had spent so much time studying the layout presented by the architect that I missed a minor omission. The plans did not include a linen closet. We presently have a small hall closet for our towels, bath supplies and first aid stuff. Granted, there would be storage in the bathroom vanity and medicine cabinets, but we still need a place for towels. We could probably fit a free-standing cabinet in the shower area, but I don’t think that would be ideal. So I made a copy of the architect’s plans and started doodling.
The double sink vanity was a pipe dream. The reality is that we have to work with the space we have and downsizing the vanity appears to be inevitable. After playing around with a couple of ideas, I sent him an email along with my revisions. One of his underlings drew up some alternative plans.
While her plans are good in their own way, they are further removed from what we need.
So here we are, still in the planning stage, and with no numbers attached to the project yet. We certainly don’t want to rush the plans and end up with something that doesn’t work, but we are also facing a deadline. The in-laws are going to be here from May to September, and we want all construction completed by Victoria Day weekend. With each passing day, I’m starting to wonder if that deadline is realistic…
