Having time off work is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it gives me more time to get stuff done. On the other hand, not having to be anywhere at a specific time gives me the false sense that my time is limitless. Wednesday, I planned to finish all the painting in the guest room, where I had applied new compound to fix up the defects in the contractor’s work. It was do-able. With only two walls and a bit of ceiling to fix up, it only takes about half an hour to apply a coat of paint. I already finished a coat of primer on Tuesday, so my plan was to get up at 8 am and apply the second coat of primer. Allowing 4 hours between coats, the 1st top coat could have been done at 12:30, and the final coat could have been applied around 5:00. Problem is, I didn’t get up until noon. I managed to get the primer coat finished around 2:00. I spent the next few hours cleaning up some of the mess upstairs. At 6:00 I took a break to watch some television and woke up around 9:00. If there was ever any doubt about how lazy I really am….
Time is running out
There is a certain amount of work I want to have finished by the time the plumbing contractor starts working on re-piping our heating system. Now I only have 4 days left, assuming that he is starting the job on Monday. The Monday start has not been officially confirmed yet, but I am operating under that assumption. I think at this point that chances are pretty good there will be a lot of stuff not checked off on my self-imposed “honey-do” list.
Will my kid be in her own bedroom by the time school starts in September?
The original plan was to move her up there by the end of June. Then that got pushed back to July, thanks to a longer-than-expected lead time for the plumbing work. I feel horrible that she has gone this long without her own room, but she is taking it all in stride. The fact that she is so patient is the big reason I now want to get everything finished upstairs as soon as possible.
