Our bamboo flooring order came in on Thursday and we loaded all 24 cases in the back of our minivan. Every case will have to be moved upstairs and opened up to acclimate at least three days before installation. As much as I would like to do the job myself, I will probably be getting an estimate for professional installation. It all comes down to how much my time is worth, and how much time I actually have. As a DIY project, it would probably take me at least a couple of days to finish, whereas a couple of pros could knock it off in a day. I also have to consider my learning curve and the cost of renting the nailer. And with my work schedule becoming busier, I’m not sure that I will have the time to do this project myself, or that I will feel like doing it when I do have the time. Even after the floor is down, I still have to install the baseboards and hang the doors.
Plumbing in a week
The plumber has tentatively scheduled the week of the 23rd to work on our heating system. Part of the job is to replace our gas hot water tank with an indirect tank that will run off of the boiler. I am especially looking forward to no longer renting a tank that is over twelve years old. Based on the rental, the indirect tank will more than pay for itself in about 8 years. We will have to wait until November to enjoy the other benefits of finally getting this work done.
This week….
I want to get the second floor and the basement completely cleaned up so the plumber has room to work, and so that once his work is done, I can easily go ahead and patch all the holes in the floor upstairs to get it ready for the installation of the bamboo flooring. I am also hoping to get the windows trimmed out now, so that after the floor is down, only the doors and baseboards will remain. It’s a tall order, but with the end in sight of this massive renovation project, I think I have enough incentive to dig in.
