Maybe my painting schedule was just a bit over-ambitious

Friday, 27 October 06

I have resigned myself to the fact that I will not finish the painting by the end of this weekend as I originally planned. I have spent two days priming all the ceilings and cathedral slopes (wherever the extruded foam insulation was used) using vapor barrier primer. I have learned, however, that the “hiding” ability of this product is less than desired. Had I known that this was the case, I would have applied a regular primer to the drywall first. Bottom line is that I should still apply a coat of regular primer before the top coats.12 hours of painting…and counting
I lacked any kind of ambition to do any more painting today. Maybe it was the weather– rainy and dreary– that contributed to my laziness. Maybe it’s the fact that, because of the weather, the second floor was cast in a funky light that wasn’t conducive to achieving a decent paint job. Maybe it’s the fact that I am just not in any kind of hurry to finish the painting.

New plan: one room at a time
Rather than prime the entire second floor at once, which I know will take about 7 hours, I have decided to break the project up into smaller stages. It may take a little longer, and I may use a few more roller covers, but it’s a matter of maintaining my sanity. I plan now to completely finish each room before moving on to the next so I can feel a greater sense of accomplishment at each stage. It’s a psychological thing….
