I spent about five hours today ripping down the walls in the bathroom. There is still a lot more demolition to be done. The ceiling should be expecially difficult, given that it has multiple layers (gypsum board, plaster, drywall) and so far does not appear to want to come down in larger pieces. Therefore, I will be swinging a hammer over my head and dodging the debris as it rains down. Oh joy!
And don’t forget the floor
I expect the floor to take a couple of days to rip up the tile and the hardwood. Chances are pretty good that the bathroom won’t be completely gutted until the weekend.
Garbage bin charges are accumulating
The initial bin rental covers three days. Every day after that incurs an additional charge. Not a huge amount, mind you, but enough to add up to significant expense over the course of a week or more. And since I plan on gutting the basement after I finish gutting the bathroom, the bin will be sitting here for more than two weeks (my best guess at this point).
The basement should be easier
But the reality could be completely different. I do know one thing for sure….there is a LOT more drywall in this house that will be going to the dumpster over the next couple of weeks.
Cash flow issues
That bin will be holding some serious tonnage by the time it gets hauled away. I’m pretty confident that I will be well over my budget after the dust clears. That could put the rest of the renovation projects on hold for a while so I can build up some cash reserves.
And yes
My shoulder still hurts. But I’m not one to whine about it!
